Bill Macleod - (Accountant)
I am very aware that alcohol and drug addiction is a huge and growing problem in this community, one which is not only wrecking and ultimately destroying the lives of the addicts but also devastating the lives of their families and those around them. What makes the matter even more appalling is the fact that these are real people, individuals originally made in the image of God now losing their dignity and purpose in life. The prime objective of Hebrides Alpha is to see people freed from their addictions and to become responsible and happy members of the local community , whole people, able to live purposeful lives again.
Shona Macleod - (Substance Misuse Co-ordinator for the Western Isles and qualified Social Worker)
I have worked for 15 years with people with alcohol or drug problems. Over these years I have regularly met individuals who I believe need and would really benefit from a supportive residential environment in which to spend time recovering from their addictions so that they can move on to have their own home and to meet the responsibilities associated with this.
I have also observed over the years and read factual accounts of how Christian based interventions have been particularly beneficial and effective in assisting people to recover.
Rev Tommy Macneil (Minister of Martins Memorial Church in Stornoway)
It is my hope and expectation that in being involved with this project, it will give opportunities to me and others in the church to show the love of God in a practical way, and in so doing, to restore a sense of dignity and hope to those who so often live without it. I believe that as we offer unconditional love, acceptance, and support that not only will allow dignity and hope be restored, but a better quality of life will be
Finlay Macdonald - (Operations Manager for Scotia Gas Networks)
I am very aware of both the destructive power of drink and drugs and also the desire many have to break free from their present lifestyles. My vision for this project is to assist people to be released from their habits while at the same time offering them meaningful employment opportunities.
Maryann Maciver – (VisitScotland Islands Manager)
'I have experienced first hand the devastation that alcohol and drug abuse causes in the lives of so many people young and old and something that is very much evident in our Islands. I have also experienced the way a gracious and loving God can comfort and heal beyond our comprehension, in these situations. I know that God can set people free from their addictions and Jesus needs willing, obedient hearts to do His work on earth.
